Activities in Wakamow Valley

Wakamow Valley is much more than a park. There are a variety of activities for all ages and abilities to help both tourists and locals create a healthy work/life balance. Here’s some of the activities you can do:

Use the Trails – With more than 20 km of trails in the Valley, Wakamow visitors are no strangers of taking picturesque views along the river. Many of our trails are wheelchair accessible. Whether you want to walk, jog, run, or cycle, the trails are available year round.

Canoe or Kayak – If you’re here and wanting to take in the river, why not be on the river? Canoes and kayaks can be rented from Moose Jaw River and Adventure Tours by calling 306-313-2212. If you are looking for regular canoe/kayak trips, get in touch with the Moose Jaw Canoe and Kayak Club.

Visit the Bird Sanctuary – Wakamow Valley is home to over 190 species of birds, as well as various species of flora and fauna. To access the sanctuary, drive down to the Kinsmen-Wellesley Pavilion and take the Maryland-Kinsmen Trail north. Bird check lists and trail maps are accessible from the main office for paper copies, or here and here for digital copies [links coming soon!] Bring your own bird seed!

Release your Inner Child – Go and have fun on any of our playgrounds in the Valley! Kiwanis River Park is home to a Pirate-themed playground; both Rotary and Kinsmen-Wellesley Park have all-inclusive, wheelchair accessible playgrounds; and Connor Park has the exciting Challenge Course!

Stay the Night – One day sometimes isn’t enough to explore 500 acres. Why not stay for the weekend in the park? Lorne Calvert Campground information can be found here, and you can book a site here. The campground is located 10-minutes walking distance away from the historic downtown of Moose Jaw, where you can support amazing local businesses.
